The Foundation Council
The Foundation Council manages the Foundation and administers its funds. It represents the Foundation in relation to Kuoni Travel Holding Ltd., Kuoni Travel IP Ltd., the VFS group, Blackstone and the interested public. The Foundation Council consists of three to five members and is self-constituting with a four-year term of office. The following persons are members of the Foundation Council: Karl Hofstetter, Franz Julen, Sébastien Baumann, Philipp Gmür and Beat Fellmann.
Karl Hofstetter
Foundation Council Chairman

Professor Dr Karl Hofstetter, a Swiss national born in 1956, has been a member of the Foundation Council of the Kuoni and Hugentobler Foundation since 2010. Karl Hofstetter earned a Doctor of Laws degree from the University of Zurich and has held the position of Honorary Professor in Private and Commercial law at the University of Zurich since 2002. Until 2018, Karl Hofstetter was an executive member of the Board of Directors of Schindler Holding Ltd. and General Counsel of Schindler Group.
Franz Julen
Foundation Council member

Franz Julen, a Swiss national, born in 1958, has been a member of the Foundation Council of the Kuoni and Hugentobler Foundation since 2020. During and after his studies at the Swiss Hotel Management School Lucerne, he coached his brother Max Julen, who became giant slalom Olympic champion in Sarajevo in 1984, worked in sports journalism, sports marketing and athlete management. In 1993 he took over the position as Chief Executive Officer of Völkl (International) AG and joined INTERSPORT International Corporation in 1998, where he first served as Chief Operating Officer and from 2000 to 2016 as Chief Executive Officer. Today, Franz Julen holds various board memberships. He is Chairman of the Board of Directors of Valora Holding AG and Zermatt Bergbahnen AG as well as member of the Advisory Board of the Aldi Süd Group of Companies. Franz Julen represents the Foundation on the Board of VFS Global AG.
Sébastien Baumann
Foundation Council member
Sébastien Baumann, a Swiss/French national, born in 1969, has been a member of the Foundation Council of the Kuoni and Hugentobler Foundation since mid-2022. Sébastien Baumann studied law at the University of Bern and was admitted to the bar of the Canton of Bern in 1996 and patented as notary public of the Canton of Bern in 1998. He has been a partner in the law firm of von Graffenried Recht since 2002. In addition, he has been General Counsel of IIC-INTERSPORT International Corp. GmbH, the headquarters of the internationally active INTERSPORT Group, since 2005. Besides he holds various mandates on boards of directors and foundations as well as on executive boards. Among other things, he is a board member and vice president of Independent Retail Europe (European umbrella organisation for groups of independent retailers in the food and non-food sector).
Philipp Gmür
Foundation Council member
Dr. Philipp Gmür, Swiss, born 1963, has been a member of the Board of the Foundation Council of the Kuoni and Hugentobler Foundation since April 2023. He studied law at the University of Fribourg (Dr. iur.) and at Duke Law School (LL.M.), was admitted to the Lucerne Bar and completed the Advanced Management Program at Harvard Business School. Philipp Gmür worked for Helvetia Insurance Group for 30 years, most recently during seven years as Chairman of the Executive Management / Group CEO. He also holds various board of directors and foundation board mandates, including at Allreal Holding AG, Baar / Zurich, and Kursaal Casino AG, Lucerne.
Beat Fellmann
Foundation Council member
Beat Fellmann, Swiss, born in 1964, has been a member of the Board of the Foundation Concil of the Kuoni and Hugentobler Foundation since January 2025. After graduating from the University of St. Gallen, he qualified as a certified auditor. He began his professional career at the international industrial company Bühler. In 1998, he moved to Holcim, where he assumed global responsibility for all finance and holding companies. In 2005, he was appointed Deputy CFO of the Group. From 2008 to 2019, Beat Fellmann was Group CFO and Head Corporate Centre at Implenia. In 2020, he moved to the Valora Group, where he has been Group CFO since. He is also a member of the Board of Directors of Vitra Holding AG (since 2016) and a member of the Board of Directors of Helvetia Holding AG (since 2018). In addition to his board mandates, he has also been a member of the Takeover Board since 2014.
